ERDF PP1 - Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology is in charge of main aspects of transportation in Austria. Its responsibilities touch all kinds of transport related issues, reaching from transport policy to aspects of infrastructure planning to all legal aspects concerning all modes of transport and transport enterprises. Furthermore, the ministry is responsible for issues on innovation, research and new technologies.

Ms. Doris Bures has been the current minister since 2008.

Two departments are involved in the Seetac Project:

  1. the department for International Networks and General Transport Planning;
  2. the department for Transport Costs - Transport and Environment.

The department for International Networks and General Transport Planning is represented in Seetac by Thomas Spiegel.

It is responsible for matters concerning the planning of international transport networks, as well as for aspects of general transport planning. The latter includes the provision of basic data like transport forecasts, transport modelling and all aspects of transport statistics, which are required to back up decisions in the field of transport planning.

The department for Transport Costs - Transport and Environment is represented by Ernst Lung.

It is responsible for matters concerning transport and environment, external costs of transport and road pricing. In the context of environmental objectives the department contributes to the development and implementation of projects within the European programs for territorial cooperation (formerly Interreg). Further tasks include: Participation in working groups on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the implementation of the transport protocol of the Alpine Convention and sustainable development of touristic traffic in the Alps and other sensitive areas.
