The EC will allow a 2-year extension for the completion of the second bridge across the Danube

Bulgaria and Romania are to receive a positive answer from the European Commission to the demand of prolongation of the construction of the bridge across the Danube set to connect the cities of Vidin and Calafat which will facilitate traffic from Central Europe to the heart of the Balkans (Corridor 4). The Danube Bridge 2, financed by EU's Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession (ISPA), was set to be completed by October 2010, but has been delayed due to technical difficulties. The 2-year extension will allow the completion of the works by October 2012; up to 63 percent of the construction work on the bridge are already have been completed, the paid off funds are at the amount of EUR 85 million, as are 57pc of the infrastructure adjoining the bridge, with a total of EUR 38 million paid for the project.
