The EBRD is fostering the modernisation of transport
infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 28,5 million euro
loan for the construction of a new bypass around the centre of
Brcko town, in the north-eastern part of the country. The loan that
so far represents the largest investment in Brcko District, will be
used to build a two-lane 19 km bypass around Brcko that will
connect to the main east-west route passing through the District.
The project will help ease the traffic congestion in the town and
will bring environmental benefits by reducing the flow of traffic
in the town centre.
The EBRD loan is complemented by a 500.000 euro technical
assistance grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework,
which will be used to support the improvement of the institutional
structure for maintenance and development of Brcko District's road
